Short answer: Metal injection molding (MIM) mixes fine metal powder with a binder, injects it into a mould like plastic, then debinds and sinters it into a dense, complex, near-net-shape part — ideal for small, intricate, high-volume components that machining or PM cannot make economically.

The MIM Process
MIM blends sub-20-micron powder with a thermoplastic binder, injection-moulds the ‘green’ part, removes the binder (catalytic or thermal), then sinters the powder to full density. It extends the powder route family covered in Metal Powder Metallurgy Guide and competes with Casting Supplier y Cnc Machining Supplier for small complex parts. The result is 96-99% dense with excellent repeatability.
Strengths and Limits
MIM excels at small parts (typically under 100 g) with 3D features, thin walls, undercuts and fine detail that would need many machining operations. Tolerances are about ±0.3-0.5% of dimension, slightly looser than PM but far more capable geometrically. It needs high volume (tens of thousands) to amortise tooling — for low volumes machining wins, and for larger simpler shapes PM or casting wins. Strength is restored by sintering; secondary heat treatment follows Stress Relieving Vs Annealing.
Applications & Sourcing
MIM makes medical instruments, firearm and lock components, watch and electronics parts, dental brackets, turbocharger vanes and surgical tools in stainless, low-alloy and tool steels, and even tungsten and titanium. Corrosion and magnetic planning use Grados de acero inoxidable explicados y Metal Magnetism Guide; certificates per Mill Test Certificate Guide. HXSCO sources MIM parts in the alloy you specify and can combine them with our machined and stamped supply.

MIM wins for small, intricate, high-volume parts (10k+) with 3D features that would need many machining steps; PM suits larger simpler shapes, machining suits low volumes.
MIM typically holds about ±0.3-0.5% of dimension with good repeatability, suitable for many functional small parts without finish machining.
