Short answer: Aluminum 7075 is a zinc-magnesium-copper alloy that reaches about 570 MPa tensile in the T6 temper — roughly steel-like strength at one-third the weight — which makes it the default aerospace and high-performance structural alloy, at the cost of poor weldability and lower corrosion resistance than 6061.

Composition and Temper
7075 belongs to the 7xxx series where zinc is the principal hardener, assisted by magnesium and a little copper; it is heat-treated to T6 (solution treated then artificially aged) for peak strength or T73 for improved stress-corrosion resistance. Its position in the series system is set out in Aluminum Alloy Series Guide, and the head-to-head against the other aerospace alloy is in 7075 Vs 6061 Aluminum. Because 7075 is not readily weldable, most fabrication is by machining or bonding, and the comparison with the more weldable 6061 is in Aluminum 6061 Properties.
What 7075 Is Good At — and Not
The alloy’s headline value is strength-to-weight: at 570 MPa it carries loads that would need 6061-T6 at nearly double the section, which is why it is used for wing skins, spars, bike frames and mould tools. The trade-offs are real — it cracks under conventional fusion welding (use rivets, adhesives or friction stir), and its copper content makes it less corrosion-resistant than 6xxx alloys, so it is often clad with 7072 or anodized for protection, the finishing options being in Anodizing Vs Powder Coating. When weight is less critical but welding and formability are, 2024 Vs 7075 Aluminum explains why 2024 or 6061 may be the better call.
Buying and Certification
HXSCO supplies 7075 as plate, bar, extrusion and forged block, typically T651 (stress-relieved plate) to AMS-QQ-A-250/12 or ASTM B211/B221, with the mechanical certificate per Mill Test Certificate Guide and a corrosion-protection spec called out. For machined parts the alloy machines superbly but work-hardens, so follow the cutting guidance used by our Cnc Machining Supplier programme. State temper, size and whether cladding or a finish is required, and we quote plate, bar or near-net forged stock from our Aluminum Supplier и Aluminum Coil Supplier programmes.

Часто задаваемые вопросы
In the T6 temper 7075 reaches about 570 MPa tensile strength at a density of 2.81 g/cm3, giving a very high strength-to-weight ratio, with poor weldability and moderate corrosion resistance.
Yes. 7075-T6 is roughly 570 MPa versus about 310 MPa for 6061-T6, nearly double the strength, which is why 7075 is used where weight saving is critical.
Conventionally, no — it is prone to hot cracking under fusion welding. Fabrication uses riveting, adhesive bonding or friction-stir welding, with mechanical fastening the most common approach.
Yes. HXSCO supplies 7075-T6 and T651 plate, bar, extrusion and forged block to AMS and ASTM specs with mill certificates and optional cladding or anodizing.
