Short answer: Qualify a metal supplier with a clear RFQ (grade, temper, size, tolerance, quantity, standard), confirm MOQ and realistic lead time, require a mill test certificate, and agree packing and Incoterms up front. Reliable suppliers publish grades, document chemistry and offer consistent export packing.

Write a Complete RFQ
State the exact grade, temper, dimensions, tolerance standard and quantity so the quote is comparable. Our Tolerances Fits Guide en Mill Test Certificate Guide show the data points mills should return. Linking the RFQ to a real standard avoids ambiguity.
Understand MOQ and Lead Time
Minimum order quantities reflect coil, ingot and tooling sizes; lead time depends on whether stock or made-to-order. We publish grades and forms across our Stainless Supplier, Aluminium Supplier en Copper Supplier pages so buyers can plan around availability.
Verify Quality Documents
Require an EN 10204 3.1 (or 3.2 for critical work) mill certificate confirming chemistry and mechanicals, plus dimensional and surface reports. Inspection depth is explained in our NDT Guide en Coating Thickness Guide.
Agree Packing and Terms
Confirm export packing and the Incoterm (see our Export Packing Guide en Incoterms Guide) so landed cost and risk are clear before production starts. A short trial order is a low-risk way to validate a new supplier.
